Tests were done indoors on an enclosed patio which gave an average daily sun exposure of around 6 hours per day. To test electrical output, we plugged in two different types of appliances into our digital power meter and then wired up the 200 watt flexible solar panel kit in line with them. The first appliance was an 800-watt electric heater, commonly used when camping during the winter months.
We ran the experiment twice and found that this panel was putting out just under 2 amps at 12 volts and around 18 watts of power for these appliances to use, which is a great result. The second appliance we used was a small refrigerator. It’s not as demanding as winter camping, but it still runs 3 hours every other day while we were at home so we could see how much power it would take from the flexible panels.
Both runs on this panel gave an average of 1 amp at 12 volts, so it should be noted that there are some efficiencies lost when using two different types of appliances in one test. This panel did give us enough juice though to keep our fridge going strong.
This panel is great for powering appliances outside without having to run power out from the trailer. If you’re using it for your boat, RV or camper, it can be fastened down with mounting hardware included in the package. We recommend the use of self-tapping screws since they’ll make sure that these panels won’t fall off accidentally.
It’s perfect for camping trips during winter months when running 1 amp at 12 volts isn’t enough to keep items running inside warm yet not too much electricity is needed. This solar panel will work well anywhere you need flexible power like on a boat, RV, or off-grid cabin.
